# LIQ-PROP : THE HYDROCARBON LIQUID PROPERTY SOFTWARE

Properties of hydrocarbon mixtures can be calculated using equation of state but calculations based on equation of states are extremely rigorous and consume lot of computer time and resources. Generally if such calculations are carried out on normal computers, they results in early wear and tear of the computer. Thus special high-end computers are required for such calculations. This underlines the requirement of non-rigorous calculation of hydrocarbon properties resulting in little loss of accuracy. Such methods are preferred over rigorous methods in day-to-day operations.

LIQ-PROP comprises of macros written for MS excel using Visual Basic for Application (VBA) programming language. LIQ-PROP can be used to determine liquid densities and latent heats of vaporization at below atmospheric pressures to elevated pressures for hydrocarbon mixtures comprising of non-polar or mildly polar hydrocarbons or inorganic gases. LIQ-PROP requires mixture composition along with pressure and temperature at which liquid properties are desired. Equilibrium pressures are calculated for the provided temperature considering it to be molal average boiling temperature of the mixture (somewhere between bubble point temperature and dew point temperature). Liquid density at saturation and super saturation conditions are calculated using COSTALD method and Modified Rackett method. Latent heat of vaporization of the hydrocarbon mixture is calculated at atmospheric pressure and desired pressure. Latent heat values only include heat required for phase change and does not include changes in sensible heat.

## CALCULATION PROCEDURES FOR LIQ-PROP

LIQ-PROP uses standard correlations and proprietary methods to non-rigorously calculate various liquid hydrocarbon mixture properties like density of liquid hydrocarbon mixture at saturation pressure at desired temperature, density of liquid hydrocarbon mixture at pressures higher than saturation pressure, latent heat of vaporization at atmospheric pressure and latent heat of vaporization at saturation pressures at desired temperature.
